Elizabeth Einstein, M.A., is a Marriage and Family Therapist,
an author, lecturer and one of the country's leading educators in the dynamics
of stepfamily relationships. A clinical member of American Association for
Marriage and Family Therapy, she has a private practice in Ithaca, N.Y.
When change involves families--illness, death, addiction issues, separation, divorce and remarriage, job loss, recovery processes--the challenges can overwhelm and make a family unstable. While change is good and transforming, for most people, it is neither an easy nor smooth process.
I am a trained family systems Marriage and Family Therapist. My basic belief about people is that every human being is capable of change and holds within all the resources to do so. Often, a guide is needed to help access those resources. Rather than viewing people who struggle with life's major changes as "sick" or weak, I understand that one's inability to manage relationships or change well is rooted in the family of origin. All too often, our teachers (parents) lacked the skills to teach us what we needed.
As your therapist, my role is to guide you as you explore issues that create challenges in your life and keep you from meeting your potential.
Much of my work is with divorcing adults and their children and with remarried families. Stepfamily Living holds many challenges; but when people take the time to get information, resolve old losses and examine expectations, The Stepfamily Journey can be a joyful one.
If you'd like to consider me as your partner on your emotional and spiritual journey, we can examine that possibility.
