As America's family image has changed, Stepfamily Living has fast become the norm.
Professionals who work with these complex families need to understand how the stepfamily
system differs in structure and dynamics. This creative workshop focuses on understanding how to work with stepfamilies from a family systems developmental theoretical framework.
Participants will learn to:
- Understand the complex stepfamily system from a developmental theoretical perspective and
why this approach is most effective.
- Identify the stages and clinical tasks of the Stepfamily Journey.
- Explore specific adolescent stepchild challenges that contribute to crisis and developmental
delays.
- Examine bonding and boundary issues in stepfamilies.
- Learn Virginia Satir's Process of Change and how it can be used to reduce anxiety in the
remarriage system.
- Review basic clinical guidelines to working with stepfamilies.
