Fishing on Lake Ontario last year produced excellent catches of king salmon. Most trips averaged 4 to 6 fish, which in the case of king salmon isn't bad at all! Cohoes, steelhead, browns and lake trout are also frequently caught.
Cayuga Lake trips produce good catches of brown, rainbow, and lake trout with an improved catch of landlocked salmon. The spring of the year is best for surface fishing for landlocked salmon and brown trout. Mid-summer requires fishing depths of up to 90 feet, but still produces good catches of rainbow and lake trout. Certainly on any given day any combination of these fish may be caught. Look at a map of Southern Cayuga Lake for some tips on where to find these species. Cayuga Lake is rarely rough and is ideal for a family fishing trip.
