Cover Story: No more Voyager for Ithaca viewers

The January/February 1995 issue of 14850 Magazine featured as its cover story the new Star Trek: Voyager series, and the inability of Ithaca viewers to watch. Six years later, this story returns as, ironically, Ithaca loses its UPN affiliate just in time for the end of this seven-year voyage.

    • Cornell hosts Girls & Women in Sports

    National Girls and Women in Sports Day" is a nationwide celebration which takes different forms in different communities. The official national day is Wednesday, Feb. 7 and ALL girls and women who participate in competitive or recreational athletics are encouraged to wear a sports shirt to school or work that day to proclaim this year's theme: "No Stopping Us Now!"

    Sunday, February 11 is the annual Cornell event for girls in grades 4 - 12 from throughout the Ithaca area. Pre-registration by Feb. 5 is necessary; forms are available from schools and sports organizations, or as a link from the www.CornellBigRed.com web site.

    • Macworld Expo introduces Digital Lifestyle era

    One advantage to attending the west-coast Macworld is that there are many smaller exhibitors who can't manage to visit New York (or, previously, Boston) but can pull off a booth in San Francisco. The show-stopper that wrapped up Steve Jobs's keynote was the PowerBook G4 Titanium, the long-awaited PowerPC G4-based laptop with a strong, light titanium metal case. It's thin and lighter than recent PowerBooks, thinner (at one inch) than even the Sony Vaio subnotebook, and weighs in at 5.3 pounds.
