Wish you could go to the Women’s March on Washington in a few weeks, but you can’t? You can knit a pink hat tomorrow for someone who’s going!

Organizer Olivia Royale says it’s the “first of a weekly series of weekly craft gatherings,” this one timed to help provide warm hats for all of the women who plan to march in Washington, D.C. the weekend of Donald Trump’s inauguration.

“Wearing pink together is a powerful statement that we are unapologetically feminine and we unapologetically stand for women’s rights,” according to organizers of the national “Pink Pussyhat” project, which aims to provide people who’ll be marching “a means to make a unique collective visual statement which will help activists be better heard.”

The local group is getting together on Sunday, January 1 from 2-4pm at Monks on the Commons in the lobby of the new Ithaca Marriott Downtown.

Royale hopes people will come to knit or crochet (there are free patterns provided) or just drop off donations of pink yarn.

The “pink pussyhat” pattern is also online for anyone who’d like to knit some hats and send them to Washington ahead of the march, but can’t make it on Sunday.
