For several years, we’ve been compiling Ithaca’s most comprehensive listing of eateries that are open and closed around the holidays. This week, we want to pay special attention to the special dining plans for New Year’s Eve.
As you plan where you’ll dine, dance, and drink, please remember to plan your ride home! Please don’t drink and drive. In Ithaca, call Collegetown Cab at 607-588-8888 or Ithaca Dispatch at 607-277-7777.
Our friends at The Rook have a three-course prix fixe dinner on New Year’s Eve with optional drink pairing. Chef Gentry Morris’s menu for the evening includes choices like grilled quail, braised lamb shank, mushroom tortelloni, and ginger-cardamom creme brulee.
Check out Monks on the Commons, where Ithaca Marriott executive chef Bryan Keller has planned a five-course tasting menu for $85, with an optional $35 wine pairing. Seatings are at 6pm and 8pm, and some intriguing choices on the menu include a Crab Louis wedge salad, heirloom tomato burrata, vegetable pot pie, herb and salt crusted prime rib, and braised lamb belly. In a fun twist, Monks will also have a $20.17 buffet of hors d’oeuvres and brunch fare available from 11pm-1am, which includes a champagne toast at midnight.
Agava Restaurant on Ithaca’s East Hill has a big show planned, with The Jeff Love Band playing at 10pm. Tickets are available for $15 in advance or $20 at the door. They’ll have their full menu for dinner, and you can expect to see some decadent dishes on the specials list.
Mix Social Dining’s New Year’s Eve plans include a four-course dinner available until 10pm for $37 per person, with an optional $20 wine pairing, plus a complimentary champagne toast at midnight and music from Spirit Posse.

I just want live music!
The Argos Inn has Mike Stark and Analogue Sons playing for their 8pm-2am soirée. A $25 ticket includes savory and sweet bites, the music, and a champagne toast at midnight. The bar opens at 6pm, but you’ll need a ticket to stay past 8.
Big Mean Sound Machine is headlining the evening at Lot 10 along with DJ Gourd, and Tenzin Chopak and Nicholas Walker are opening the show upstairs. Tickets are $25.
Just a $5 cover at the Range for Kitestring, Viva Mayhem and Sam & Mandy. The Destination is doing their annual New Year’s Eve show at the Dock.
K-House Karaoke has live music from Arthur B and the Planetary Mix from 11pm-1am with karaoke before and after the show, and private suites are open all day and evening until 3am.
And of course you can go see The Jeff Love Band at Agava without having dinner! That show starts at 10pm.
Not the usual live music, but Model Citizen is hosting a BOUND New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball from 9pm-3am at the Haunt, with DJ Rob Haze and DJ DarkFader providing the tunes. Dress fancy or fetish for $15 admission; it’s $30 without the effort.
What about New Year’s Day?
Of course it’s happened before, but this is the first year in a while that New Year’s Day has fallen on a Sunday. That means some of our favorite brunch spots will be open for a New Year’s brunch, in some cases with a special menu or new dishes for the occasion.
Bandwagon Brewpub will be open for New Year’s Day brunch and dinner until 10pm.
Monks on the Commons is open on New Year’s Day for brunch from 10am-3pm followed by a 3-8pm “football menu” featuring burgers, wings, and sharable plates.

Simeon’s has a great Sunday brunch, and they’ll be open New Year’s Day.
Gimme! Coffee is opening late on New Year’s Day at 10am, but they make up for it with their traditional free espresso for everyone who stops in! Remember to tip your barista.
