POSTPONED: Route 79 east (Green Street in Ithaca) will be closed Wednesday night

The City of Ithaca says Green Street, or Route 79 eastbound through Downtown Ithaca, will be closed this coming Wednesday night for placement of a crane for the City Centre project.

Update: The City of Ithaca tells us the contractor has postponed delivery of a crane, and the closure of Green Street, “due to weather constraints.” A new date hasn’t yet been set.

According to assistant civil engineer Lynne Yost, PE, East Green Street will be closed from Cayuga Street to the intersection with East State Street at Seneca Way, starting at 7pm on Wednesday, January 3rd, and “until early morning Thursday.”

We’d suggest drivers take East Buffalo Street through downtown instead, keeping in mind that you won’t be able to turn left at Cayuga Street (which is one way the wrong way near the Commons) to get to Buffalo. Clinton Street to Prospect Street to South Aurora Street is another option.

Yost says the plan is to have Green Street fully reopened to traffic in time for Thursday morning’s commute.
