Woman arrested after turning in “lost wallet”

A woman caught on video surveillance turning in a “lost wallet” at a bank has been charged for stealing it from a home in Enfield, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident dates back to December 20th, when the Sheriff’s Department says they responded to a home in the Town of Enfield where a victim said a wallet had been taken from her residence, with an undisclosed amount of cash inside.

The Sheriff’s Department says 52-year-old Ithaca woman Kathleen Day was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property after she was identified in the bank’s video, turning in the wallet. When the victim went to the bank to reclaim her property, she found the cash was missing.

Day has been released on an appearance ticket for January 16, the Sheriff’s Department says.
