Where can you dine in and around Ithaca and Tompkins County over the upcoming holiday weekends? As always, there will be a few eateries open over the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays, and we’ve got details on when restaurants will be open and closed.
Collegetown’s 7-Eleven store (formerly Wilson Farms) is open 24/7, and will be open through the holidays.
Agava on Ithaca’s east hill will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and reopening at 11am on Friday, November 25th for lunch. They’ll have lunch and dinner service (no brunch) on Christmas Eve until 9pm, and be closed for Christmas Day. Agava also has a festive New Year’s Eve planned featuring music by the Jeff Love Band and a champagne toast at midnight. Tickets for the show are available, and dinner reservations are separate. They’ll be closed January 1st through 5th, reopening for dinner on the 6th through 10th, and returning to normal on January 11th.
Aladdin’s Natural Eatery is offering their third annual complimentary Thanksgiving meal to those in need from 11:30am to 4pm (“or until the turkey’s gone”) on Thursday, November 24th, at their Collegetown restaurant at 100 Dryden Road. The meal is being sponsored by Aladdin’s as well as Maines, Sysco, and the UPS Store in Collegetown.
Argos Inn’s Bar Argos will be open on New Year’s Eve from 6pm-2am, but their New Year’s Soirée from 8pm on is a ticketed event. A $25 ticket includes savory and sweet snacks, music from Mike Stark and the Analogue Sons, and a champagne toast at midnight.
Bandwagon Brewpub will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, open New Year’s Eve normal hours, and open for New Year’s Day brunch and dinner until 10pm.
Carriage House Cafe is closing for winter break at 3pm on Sunday, December 18th, and reopening on January 21st.
Ciao in Ithaca’s northeast will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. They’re open Christmas Eve 11:30am-8pm and December 26th 11:30am-9pm, and open New Year’s Eve 11:30am-10pm.
Cinemapolis is holding a Christmas Day benefit “brunch at the movies.” Tickets are $50 per person, which includes a Thai brunch prepared by Tamarind and admission to any of their matinee movie showings.
The Coal Yard Cafe is closed Thanksgiving Day through the weekend, and reopening on Monday, November 28th.
Cornell University is hosting its 29th annual Community Thanksgiving Feast with seatings at noon and 1:30pm on Thanksgiving, with tickets going on sale on November 21st to the general public. (Tickets will not be sold at the door.) The menu features roast turkey, poached salmon with citrus hollandaise, herb baked tofu, vegetarian and sausage stuffing, and traditional accompaniments. $14 for adults and $8 for children 6-12. Kids 5 and under eat free. All other Cornell Dining eateries are closed for the day.
Denny’s in Ithaca’s southwest is open 24/7, and will be open over the holiday weekends.
Gimme! Coffee cafes are open from 7am-2pm on Thanksgiving Day. They have regular hours on December 24th and 26th, closed on Christmas Day, closing early at 5pm on December 31st, and opening at 10am on New Year’s Day with their traditional free espresso shot for everyone. (Remember to tip your barista!)
Gola Osteria will be open Christmas Eve 5-9pm with a prix fixe menu, closed Christmas Day, open New Year’s Eve 5-11pm with a prix fixe menu, and then closed January 1st-18th, reopening on the 19th.
The kitchen at The Haunt will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, open 4-9pm on New Year’s Eve, and closed on New Year’s Day.
Felicia’s Hive 45 in Trumansburg is closed Thanksgiving Day through the weekend, and reopening Thursday, December 1st.
Hopshire Farms and Brewery in Freeville is open December 24th from 12-6pm, then closed on Christmas Day.
Hotel Ithaca on South Cayuga Street in Downtown Ithaca is offering a “Thanksgiving Grand Buffet” in their newly renovated grand ballroom, with red lentil pumpkin soup, roast turkey with fig stuffing, smoked gouda and shallot lobster mac & cheese, buttermilk mashed potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts, and plenty more. Dinner is $24.99 per adult, $12.99 for kids 4-12, and free for kids under 4. Beverages, taxes, and gratuity are not included, and reservations are required.
The Inns of Aurora is hosting a “from-scratch buffet” on Thanksgiving, from noon to 4pm, featuring classic Thanksgiving dishes. The holiday dinner is $50 for adults, $25 for children under 12, and free for children under 5. They have a New Year’s Eve dinner with seatings from 5-10pm, with either three-course or four-course tasting menus and an optional wine pairing.
Istanbul Turkish Kitchen is open Christmas Eve until 4pm, and will take reservations for ten or more for dinner on the 24th.
Jack’s Collegetown Grill will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day, but otherwise open 11am-11pm through Cornell’s winter break.
Jade Garden Chinese Restaurant is open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day at their new west end location at 108 South Meadow Street.
The venerable Joe’s Restaurant in Ithaca’s west end is open on Christmas Day from 1-8pm offering a special holiday menu.
Lincoln Street Diner is open Wednesday, then closed Thanksgiving Day and Friday. They’ll reopen Saturday morning. They’ll be open Christmas Eve until 10:30am, then closed through December 27th, reopening on the 28th. The diner will be closed December 31st through January 2nd, reopening on the 3rd.
Luna Inspired Street Food will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day, but otherwise open 4-11pm through Cornell’s winter break.
Madeline’s is holding a speakeasy-themed fundraising dinner on New Year’s Eve from 5-10pm, with 10% of all proceeds going to Healthy Food for All.
Maxie’s Supper Club will be open on New Year’s Eve with their regular menu plus $40 and $49 per person tasting menus.
Mix Social Dining is closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, but open Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. On Christmas Eve, the kitchen will be open from 5-9pm with their regular menu plus some holiday specials. Mix’s New Year’s Eve plans include a four-course dinner available until 10pm for $37 per person, with an optional $20 wine pairing, plus a complimentary champagne toast at midnight and music from Spirit Posse.
Monks on the Commons in the new Ithaca Marriott Downtown will be open Christmas Eve and closed Christmas Day. They’ll have a five-course New Year’s Eve tasting menu, with two seatings at 6pm and 8pm by reservation, then a $20.17 light buffet from 11pm-1am that includes a champagne toast at midnight. They’re open on New Year’s Day for brunch from 10am-3pm followed by a 3-8pm “football menu” featuring burgers, wings, and sharable plates.
Nickel’s Pit BBQ in Watkins Glen is closed for the season, though they’ll open for a few weekends over the winter. They’ll be open 5-9pm on January 6th and 7th and for a BBQ Sunday brunch from 10am-2pm on January 8th.
Papa John’s Pizza is opening at 11am on Thanksgiving Day, staying open all night and through Black Friday, and open regular hours through the weekend. They’re open 9am-9pm on Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas Day, and otherwise open 9am-1am daily until students return to town.
Ithaca Airport Ramada Inn’s Dapper’s Restaurant has both Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day dinner buffets planned, with reservations required. They’re featuring roast turkey with gravy, ham and steamed broccoli, and roast sirloin of beef, plus candied yams, country stuffing, fresh fruit and salads, desserts, and more. The meal is $19.95 per person, $10.95 for kids under 12, and kids under 4 eat free.
Red’s Place on Restaurant Row in Downtown Ithaca is closed December 24th-26th, New Year’s Day, and January 8th-11th for yearly maintenance. Otherwise, they’ll be open their normal hours, starting with lunch at 11:30am each day.
Rogues’ Harbor Inn’s restaurant is closed December 25th, and January 1st through 8th. Their B&B is closed those dates, plus December 24th.
The Rook in Ithaca’s west end will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, closed New Year’s Day, and offering a three-course prix fixe dinner on New Year’s Eve with optional drink pairing. Chef Gentry Morris’s menu for the evening includes choices like grilled quail, braised lamb shank, mushroom tortelloni, and ginger-cardamom creme brulee.
The Rose at the Triphammer Marketplace has a Thanksgiving Day buffet planned from 11:30am-4pm with carved roast turkey, slow roasted prime rib, and seafood Newburg, as well as plenty of sides to choose from. The buffet is $23.99 for adults, $9.99 for kids 6-10, and free for children under 5.
Rulloff’s in Collegetown will be closed on Christmas Eve for two weeks to allow for some maintenance, reopening on January 8th.
Sacred Root Kava Lounge & Tea Bar will be open from 6pm-midnight on Christmas Day.
Sal’s Pizzeria is open Christmas Eve from 11am-6pm, closed Christmas Day, open New Year’s Eve from 11am-7:30pm, and New Year’s Day from 4-8pm.
Scale House Brewpub will be open from 6pm-1am on Thanksgiving night, with football on the TVs and food and drinks available. On Christmas Eve, they’ll be open 11am-7:30pm, with a free buffet and half-price drinks from 3-6pm. They’re open on New Year’s Eve, as well, with lots of specials from 11am-9pm.
Shortstop Deli on Seneca Street in Downtown Ithaca is open 24/7, and will be open through the holidays.
Simeon’s will be closed on Christmas Day, but otherwise open through the holidays.
Smart Yogurt in Ithaca’s southwest is closed on Thanksgiving Day. Their final day in business is December 15th.
Spicy Asian in Ithaca’s southwest is open their usual hours through the holidays, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Star Truck will be serving up their entirely plant-based menu from their usual spot in Press Bay Alley from 11am-5pm on Thanksgiving Day, plus a featured sandwich with seared local seitan, melted Daiya vegan mozzarella, stuffing, mushroom gravy, local seared brussels sprouts, and garlic mayo on local french peasant bread.
The Varna Community Center is holding their fifth annual community Thanksgiving dinner. It’s a free meal open to the public, featuring turkey (or vegetarian alternative), sides, desserts, and beverages. Volunteer help and food or monetary donations are welcome! The Watershed will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and on December 28th for a holiday party. They’re closed on New Year’s Eve, but open on New Year’s Day.
Need to do some last-minute shopping?
P&C Fresh at Ithaca’s East Hill Plaza, usually open 24 hours a day, will close at 4pm on Thanksgiving Day and reopen Friday morning at 6am. They’re closing at 6pm on Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas Day, and reopening on December 26th at 6am. The P&C Fresh Cortland store will be open Thanksgiving Day from 6am-4pm, then reopen Friday at 6am.
Six Mile Creek Vineyard will be open Christmas Eve from 10am-2pm.
Sparrow’s Wine Legend on Fulton Street in Ithaca’s west end will be open Thanksgiving Day from 11am-6pm. Sparrow’s will be open 11am-9pm on December 23rd and 30th, 10am-8pm on Christmas Eve, and 10am-9pm on New Year’s Eve. They’ll be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, reopening at 11am on December 26th and January 2nd.
Stonewall Wine & Spirits on Route 366 north of Varna will be open Thanksgiving Day from 10am-4pm, with their normal hours the rest of the week. They’re open 10am-9pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, closed Christmas Day, and open 12-5pm on New Year’s Day.
Target at the Shops at Ithaca Mall, which includes a full grocery section, will be closed on Thanksgiving Day until 6pm, then open for the evening, stay open all night, and remain open through Black Friday until 10pm.
Tops Friendly Markets stores will close at 5pm on Thanksgiving and reopen at 6am on Friday.
Wegmans will be open on Thanksgiving Day until 4pm, and then close until 7am Friday.
