Free parking this week in two Downtown Ithaca garages

Got some last-minute holiday shopping to do? Get a free hour of parking in the Seneca or Green Street parking garages with a purchase at one of many downtown Ithaca retail stores. The offer runs from December 13 to this Friday December 22.

The Downtown Ithaca Alliance says “most downtown stores” are participating in the program, and the DIA is “funding part of the costs” to allow shoppers to get a free hour in these two city-owned, city-operated garages. (The Cayuga Street garage and the street level parking lot under the Green Street garage, which are operated by third parties, aren’t included in the offer.)

Shoppers can ask for a complimentary ticket when they shop in “downtown’s many specialty shops and boutiques” that will act as a prepaid coupon they can use at the exit gate pay stations. Just insert the coupon and then pay for any remaining balance of your parking cost using a credit card or debit card. (These pay stations don’t accept cash, and the ones that do can’t take the free-hour coupons.)

Visitors who already paid for their parking can redeem the free-hour coupon for a later visit, but they are only valid through December 22.

As always, parking is free next Saturday and Sunday, and on Christmas Day.
