Food makes a perfect gift for the holidays or any time of year!

We’ve gotten past Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, and 14850 Dining is here to help you finish off your shopping list with Hanukkah  and Christmas just around the corner. Gifts of food are appreciated any time of year, and you’ll put a smile on everyone’s face with one of our local gift options.

You may need to bundle up, but the Ithaca Farmers Market is worth a visit in late fall! 14850 file photo.

Grab some fresh local fruit, wines, cider, crafts, or meats at the Ithaca Farmers Market, still open at Steamboat Landing through this Saturday. Growlers of beer at Finger Lakes Beverage Center or Ithaca Coffee Company.

Terra Rosa at the Triphammer Marketplace has organic teas and cocoa from Flying Bird Botanicals, interesting simple syrups from Bang Candy Company, and a custom Quinta Rosa Estate coffee roasted by Copper Horse Coffee.

Explore the locally produced items (not just meats) at the Piggery Butcher Shop, which recently celebrated its third anniversary in this new incarnation, offering their own pork as well as locally raised meats, eggs, bread, condiments, and produce from several other area farms.

Grab some handmade candy at Life’s So Sweet Chocolates. Local snacks and sodas at Sunny Days. Pick up accessories like coffee travel mugs at Collegetown Bagels, or a pound of exotic coffee beans at The Shop Cafe. Grainful has locally produced meal kits centered on oats, as well as frozen prepared meals, and has a 30% discount on online orders through December 20th using code holiday2017.

Instead of carting lots of food around town or spending a fortune on shipping, go the gift certificate route. Lots of local eateries and specialty stores offer gift certificates and gift cards, and some even have holiday season specials, like a free pizza with purchase of a $25 Papa John’s gift card. Some local restaurants sell gift certificates on their web sites, so you can shop with a click.

Wine club members are often invited to special tastings at local wineries. 14850 file photo.

Sign a friend up for a favorite winery’s wine club, or pick up a travel corkscrew for emergencies. Bring the gang to Boatyard Grill or Agava and treat your friends or relatives to a nice meal. For loved ones outside Ithaca, arrange overnight delivery of a special dinner from Legal Sea Foods.

Don’t miss our annual listing of who’s open and closed for the upcoming holiday weekends, and tell them you heard about them here. Best wishes for a happy and delicious holiday season from all of us at 14850 Magazine!
