Truck crash into pole closes Route 13 south of Ithaca

Update: As of 4:39pm, one lane has reopened in each direction, with cones controlling traffic flow. Expect delays.

Route 13 is closed between Route 13A (5 Mile Drive) and 7 Mile Drive south of Ithaca, after a box truck crashed into a utility pole near the Rodeway Inn, in the 600 block of Elmira Road. Department of Transportation officials say the highway could be closed for up to two hours.

The Ithaca Fire Department says no injuries have been reported, but there are power outages in the area (with outages reported as far north as Wegmans) and significant traffic delays are likely.

All lanes of Route 13 are closed, and traffic is being rerouted around the site on 7 Mile Drive, Bostwick Road, and 5 Mile Drive (Route 13A).

Over 200 customers are without power in the Town of Ithaca in the surrounding area, including on Elmira Road, 7 Mile Drive, Apple Blossom Lane, Enfield Falls Road, and Brewery Lane. As of about 4pm, IFD says NYSEG crews are on the scene and hope to have power restored and the road reopened by about 5pm.
