The Ithaca area is likely to get a few inches of snow overnight tonight and could have “heavy snow” tomorrow morning, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.
Light snow has already started in Central New York, but the National Weather Service says daytime accumulation should be less than an inch. Snow showers, which could be heavy at times, are likeliest overnight between 4am and 8am.
According to meteorologist Drew Montreuil of Finger Lakes Weather, the expected heavy “lake effect snow will have a harder time being organized on Friday, resulting in smaller snow flakes and less accumulation.” Forecasts originally called for several inches of heavy snow on Friday. “Lake effect snow is a very unique, complex and sensitive weather phenomenon,” Drew says.
