It’s the final home weekend of 2016 for both men’s and women’s Cornell hockey teams, with a full slate of four contests at Lynah Rink. The men and women are both returning from recent away games.
The weekend begins with a 3pm Friday contest for the Big Red women against Harvard, who are seeking their second win of the season after a 1-8 start. Five of the Crimson’s losses have been by one goal, four of those losses have come in overtime, and three have come against ranked opponents, according to Cornell. The Big Red topped Harvard 3-2 in overtime when they last met, in February.
Cornell says Sicilian Delight is providing free pizza at 2:45pm Friday to Cornell students who present a student ID.
Saturday’s 3pm women’s game brings Dartmouth’s Big Green to Lynah Rink. Dartmouth split a pair of games at Maine earlier this week, a win on Monday and a loss on Tuesday. The Green are 2-6 on the season, 1-4 in ECAC play, and lost both games against Cornell last season.
Both women’s games are an opportunity to donate new, unwrapped toys that will be distributed to local families through the Cops, Kids & Toys of Tompkins County program. Saturday’s men’s game features the annual Teddy Bear Toss; bring a new teddy bear to donate, or buy one at the rink, and toss them on the ice where they’ll be collected for area kids.
The Big Red men are fresh from a pair of road wins, having topped the University of New Hampshire at Madison Square Garden in what has become an annual game against a variety of foes, followed by a midweek win at Colgate this Tuesday. They host Miami University for a pair of non-conference games on Friday and Saturday at 7pm. The RedHawks hold a 3-1 series lead over Cornell, but are riding a seven-game winless streak into Ithaca. They’re 3-6-4 overall, 0-4-2 in NCHC action.
