According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, the man’s “death does not appear to be suspicious in nature and there is no indication of foul play.” Coverage in the Ithaca Voice says Reeves hanged himself in his cell on Friday after intentionally setting the fire.

Reeves was charged with arson in the first degree in the wake of a fire investigation. “Officers determined the residence in which the fire started housed at least seven people and that the fire was intentionally started,” according to an IPD release on Wednesday evening. Reeves was arrested at 12:07pm, less than 12 hours after the fire broke out.

The Sheriff’s Office says “A determination into the cause of death is still under investigation.”
