Free parking for Thanksgiving Weekend in Ithaca

Put those quarters away! Parking is free in Ithaca for Thanksgiving Weekend for your shopping and dining needs, and it starts on Wednesday night.

The City of Ithaca says free parking starts at 8pm on Wednesday, November 22, and lasts until 3am on Monday, November 27. It’s good for the on-street parking at meters and paystations, as well as the city-owned parking garages around downtown.

Parking on a federal holiday like Thanksgiving is always free, but the bonus day on Friday makes shopping even easier than usual.

So, go ahead and ignore the Parkmobile app and the parking paystations, keep those scratch-off parking hang tags for another day, and breeze right past the machines at the parking garages.

Remember all of the standard restrictions apply, like 15-minute loading zones, two-hour limits, and of course handicap accessible spaces. And keep in mind there’s a private pay lot next to Center Ithaca, under the Green Street parking garage, that isn’t owned by the city and is never free.
