Eateries and merchants offer free meals and discounts on Veterans Day

Ithaca’s Veterans Day parade happened last Sunday, but several area eateries have special offers to honor veterans today.

Around the country, many merchants are continuing a tradition this Saturday, or even all weekend, of offering free meals and discounts to military service members and veterans to observe Veterans Day. While some are national chains that don’t have outlets in Central New York, we’ve compiled a list for our area.

  • Applebee’s is offering a free meal from a limited menu on Saturday to veterans and active service members during each location’s business hours, with several entrees to choose from. Last year, Applebee’s served over a million free meals.
  • BoatYard Grill on Ithaca’s waterfront is offering 20% off for veterans all day Saturday.
  • Buffalo Wild Wings is offering a free small order of traditional or boneless wings and a side of fries on Veterans Day to veterans and active service members.
  • Chili’s offers a free meal from a limited menu to veterans and active service members on Veterans Day.
  • Chipotle offered a free burrito, bowl, salad, or taco order with purchase of another entree item, from 5pm to close on Tuesday, November 7th, for veterans and active service members.

  • Little Caesar’s is offering a free hot-n-ready lunch combo from 11am-2pm to veterans and active service members.
  • Papa John’s Pizza has no nationwide offer, but Ithaca’s Papa John’s franchise offers a free slice of cheese or pepperoni pizza to veterans on Veterans Day, available when slices are served, from 10am-2pm and 4pm-6pm, and 20% off regular menu prices at any time for veterans and active military service members.
  • Red’s Place offers a 25% discount on Veterans Day and a 10% discount at all times to all veterans and current military.
  • Simeon’s American Bistro offers a complimentary dessert for all veterans on Friday, November 10th and Saturday, November 11th, during lunch hours.
  • Starbucks is offering a free tall brewed coffee to veterans, active military members, and military spouses. The company is also donating $5 to Veterans organizations for every Veterans Day Starbucks Card purchased through November 15th, and Starbucks employees can donate their weekly coffee bag benefit to be sent to troops overseas.
  • Texas Roadhouse is offering a free lunch from 11am-3pm from a limited menu to veterans and active service members who present valid military identification. Ithaca’s restaurant is also collecting gift cards that will be donated to the VFW.
  • Finger Lakes ReUse Center is offering 25% off the entire purchase for all veterans and active duty military on Friday and Saturday.

Are we missing any discounts or free meals for veterans at local businesses? Please let us know in the comments!

Veterans and active-duty service members may need to provide proof of military service to obtain these discounts or free meals. Required proof may vary by establishment, from wearing a uniform, to a photo of yourself in uniform, to Uniform Services ID Card or discharge paperwork. We suggest checking with local franchises to make sure they’re participating in the national chain’s promotions.
