Eateries and merchants offer free meals and discounts on Veterans Day

Ithaca’s Veterans Day parade happened on Sunday, but the Tompkins County Veterans Committee’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony is on Friday morning at 11am, at DeWitt Park in Downtown Ithaca. Meantime, many eateries have special offers to honor veterans.

Around the country, many merchants are continuing a tradition this Wednesday of offering free meals and discounts to military service members and veterans to observe Veterans Day. While some are national chains that don’t have outlets in Central New York, we’ve compiled a list for our area.

  • Agava Restaurant on Ithaca’s east hill is offering 10% off for veterans or active service military members, along with their families, all day on Veterans Day.
  • Applebee’s is offering a free meal from a limited menu on Friday to veterans and active service members during each location’s business hours, with several entrees to choose from. Last year, Applebee’s served over a million free meals.
  • Buffalo Wild Wings is offering a free order of wings and a side of fries on Veterans Day to veterans and active service members.
  • Chili’s offers a free meal from a limited menu to veterans and active service members on Veterans Day.
  • Chipotle is offering a free burrito, bowl, salad, or taco order with purchase of another entree item, from 3pm to close, for veterans and active service members.
  • Dandy Mart is offering a free pizza meal, two slices and a drink, to all veterans and service members on Veterans Day.
  • Denny’s is offering a free Build Your Own Grand Slam Breakfast to veterans and active service members from 5am to noon.
  • Friendly’s is offering a Big Two-Do breakfast including coffee, or an All-American Burger with fries and beverage for lunch or dinner, to veterans and active service members.
  • Little Caesar’s is offering a free $5 hot-n-ready lunch combo from 11am-2pm to veterans and active service members.
  • Papa John’s Pizza has no nationwide offer, but Ithaca’s Papa John’s franchise offers a free slice of cheese or pepperoni pizza to veterans on Veterans Day, available when slices are served, from 10am-2pm and 4pm-6pm, and 20% off regular menu prices at any time for veterans and active military service members.
  • Red’s Place offers a 25% discount on Veterans Day and a 10% discount at all times to all veterans and current military.
  • Starbucks is offering a free tall brewed coffee to veterans, active military members, and military spouses.
  • Texas Roadhouse is offering a free meal from 11am-4pm from a limited menu to veterans and active service members. Ithaca’s restaurant is also collecting gift cards that will be donated to the VFW.

Are we missing any discounts or free meals for veterans at local businesses? Please let us know in the comments!

Veterans and active-duty service members may need to provide proof of military service to obtain these discounts or free meals. Required proof may vary by establishment, from wearing a uniform, to a photo of yourself in uniform, to Uniform Services ID Card or discharge paperwork. We suggest checking with local franchises to make sure they’re participating in the national chain’s promotions.
