Seekers and Sorting Hats as SPCA prepares for Ithaca’s Wizarding Weekend

Seekers and Sorting Hats, oh my! The SPCA of Tompkins County is gearing up for Ithaca’s Wizarding Weekend, and sorting adoptable animals into each of the Harry Potter houses for the occasion.

“We’re sorting animals into the different houses and they’ll each have a crest on their door,” says SPCA volunteer coordinator Kat Pannill. She also runs the SPCA’s social media efforts, and will be posting animals (“mostly long-timers,” she says) from a different Hogwarts house each day. The SPCA will be waiving cat adoption fees for cats within the Hogwarts house of the day.

The house crests are being put up today, while the shelter is closed, so they’ll be available tomorrow. “We also have pictures of cats playing with a cute toy for some ‘Adopt a Seeker’ posts each day,” Kat says.

House crests will be up on Thursday.

The SPCA of Tompkins County’s main adoption center on Hanshaw Road is open Thursday from 12-7pm, and then 12-5pm this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Kat adds, “Hopefully this will attract some people to adopt our Slytherin-type cats!”
