This week, we’re celebrating the return of Smart Yogurt to Ithaca — at Rogan’s Corner! The south hill eatery and convenience store has taken over the popular local frozen yogurt brand.
Smart Yogurt was Ithaca’s own frozen yogurt, and owners Matt Poole and Eric Boynton got out of the business just last fall after five years in Ithaca’s southwest. For a while, the company also operated a small kiosk at the Shops at Ithaca Mall, near Regal Cinema.
Now, Rogan’s has bought up the business, complete with equipment and recipes, and is making fro-yo from scratch daily with fresh ingredients.
The flavors change regularly, with choices like tart, sea salted caramel, and strawberry shortcake, and there are plenty of toppings from fresh fruit to candy bits to cookie dough and strawberry sauce. It may not be the cheapest way to buy strawberries, but at least topping your dessert with fresh fruit and slivered almonds makes it healthy. Right? Right.
Frozen yogurt has been very popular at Rogan’s since they added it, according to Jordan Meyer, who we spoke to this week. It’s only available from 11am until 11pm, but Jordan says there are often people stopping in as early as 8am to see if they can score a cup of the sweet treat.
Rogan’s also has a huge array of pizza, wings, calzones, subs, breakfast sandwiches, even Italian dinners, not to mention candy and chips and other convenience store fare, and they’ve got beer on tap for just a few bucks a pint if you want to stop in and watch the game on their big screen TV.
Find Rogan’s Corner at 825 Danby Road just downhill from Ithaca College on South Hill or at roganscornerithaca.com, or give them a call at 607-277-7191 and tell them you heard about them here. Sorry, no online frozen yogurt orders — you want to top it yourself anyway!
