Charity softball tourney Saturday joins Ithaca Police, Ithaca Fire, and Bangs Ambulance

Members of Ithaca’s law enforcement and first responder community will team up for a common cause this Saturday for the annual Ithaca First Responder Charity Softball Tournament. The doubleheader starts at 2pm at Ithaca College.

Tickets for the charity softball game enter you in raffle drawings. Photo provided.

Ticket sales (just each) will benefit the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, and all ticket purchasers get entered in raffle and prize drawings.

This is the third annual event, but in the past it was just Ithaca Police and Ithaca Fire personnel playing a single game. This year they’re mixing it up with a first game between Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance, and then the winner will take on the Ithaca Police Department, who won last year’s contest. “Police squeaked by Fire with a walk-off home run by Sgt. Mike Nelson to win it 18-17” last year, Sgt. Barry Banfield of IPD tells us. The event raised ,247 for the Central New York Chapter of JDRF, formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Anyone with advance tickets purchased by contacting charitysoftball@ithacapba.org or talking to IPD, IFD, or Bangs personnel will be entered into a 50/50 drawing. Tickets are also available at the gate, and all tickets will be entered for drawings throughout the afternoon for prizes donated by local businesses including McDonald’s, Papa John’s Pizza, Inn on Columbia, Cayuga Chiropractic and Wellness Center, United Uniform, Gola Osteria, Ciao, Purity Ice Cream, DiBella’s Subs, Finger Lakes Beverage Center, Texas Roadhouse, Maguire Automotive, and Ultimate Athletics.

Gates open at 1pm on Saturday, September 30 at Kostrinsky Field at Ithaca College, with the first game set for 2pm.
