Ellis Hollow Fair, in its seventh decade, this Saturday east of Ithaca

It’s not the oldest fair in the area, not by a long shot, but the Ellis Hollow Country Fair has a lot of things going for it. The annual event, scheduled for Saturday afternoon, has hay rides, a dunking booth, music, games, face painting, and food and crafts vendors, and perhaps best of all, admission is free.

“There is never a charge for admission and prices are kept low for the many games geared towards young children,” says fair volunteer Treva Levine. “Hand crafts and baked goods are homemade and the produce is home grown by Ellis Hollow residents.” Food booths will be serving hot buttered locally grown corn, BBQ chicken, and baked goods, and there’s a “white elephant sale” based on the precept that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The SPCA of Tompkins County will be on hand with cats and dogs available for adoption.

It’s about a century younger than the Trumansburg Fair, but this community-run annual fair, now in its 63rd year, is much homier. It draws crowds of up to about 6,000 over the course of the day, and serves as the primary source of funding for the Ellis Hollow Community Center’s programs throughout the rest of the year.

The Ellis Hollow Country Fair is at the Ellis Hollow Community Center, on Genung Road just off Ellis Hollow Road, from noon to 5pm on Saturday, September 10th. In the event of inclement weather, the rain date is Sunday the 11th.
