Cornell and Cayuga Heights police investigating suspicious van

A pair in a suspicious vehicle has been approaching female pedestrians along Triphammer Road in the Cayuga Heights area of Ithaca, according to a bulletin from Cornell.

The Cayuga Heights Police Department informed Cornell that they had received reports of two incidents, on August 22 and September 1, that “during the late evening and early morning hours, a white or cream colored older model minivan suddenly and aggressively pulled over and then approached female pedestrians walking along Triphammer Road between Sisson Place and Country Club Road.”

Police say the pedestrians reported in both cases that there was “a white male driver and white female passenger with curly hair and wearing dark glasses,” according to the alert from Cornell. In the earlier incident, on August 22, police say “the occupants of the vehicle told the pedestrians that they were a taxicab and asked if they wanted a ride.”

Cornell asks that anyone with information about these incidents contact Cayuga Heights Police Department at 607-257-1011 or the Cornell University Police at 607-255-1111.

“If someone approaches you in a vehicle that you do not know, you do not have to engage them in conversation,” Cornell says. “If they don’t leave you alone, call 911.”
