This Sunday, September 4th, Ithaca’s own Silo Food Truck will be one of twenty competitors in the second annual Food Truck Competition at the Great New York State Fair.
The Ithaca-based food truck, which debuted last summer and traveled to warmer climes over the winter, was invited to join the line-up as a late addition to 19 food trucks who applied for the competition this spring.
The competition includes the Salt City Food Truck, Hofmann Sausage Company, Via Napoli Express, and other Central New York favorites.
“So glad we are taking our truck to new levels,” said Silo co-owner Katie Foley. She and Jesse Steve operate the truck, which sells locally sourced fried chicken, decadent macaroni and cheese, and salads at festivals and other events.
Silo’s Telekinetic Fried Chicken will be their entry in the competition, which “features New York-grown and made products,” according to Fair officials. A group of food experts will sample each offering to select a winner, and vendors will sell samples of their entries to fairgoers for $2, so the public can cast votes for a People’s Choice winner. The first competition last summer was won by Smokin’ Pete’s BBQ, from Rochester.
