Along with their weekly Taco Tuesday event at the Lincoln Street Diner, the Bickering Twins catering team has been serving their delicious and creative tacos, and tasty sides, at The Loft above the Carriage House Cafe, on Thursdays. The Loft has weekly live music, and offers creative cocktails made with fresh ingredients; they’re open Wednesday through Saturday nights from 4:30-11pm, with whisky specials on Wednesdays.
This Thursday, Bickering Twins partner Corey Adelman says both they and The Loft are donating a portion of their proceeds to The Ithaca Voice “in order to keep local journalism alive.”
The Twins have a selection of regular tacos, including chicken, shrimp, and lamb, and there’s always a vegetarian taco, as well as vegetarian sides including rice, beans, and smashed plantains. There’s a featured taco of the week, and Adelman tells us this week’s is shredded spareribs with salpicon (cabbage salad) topped with avocado salsa and queso oaxaca. “I’m also doing a vegetable tostada special for Thursday only,” he adds, “with sautéed summer squash, zucchini, roasted cherry tomatoes, grilled poblanos, and cotija cheese.”
Debuting just over three years ago, The Ithaca Voice is a non-profit that asks for donations from readers to help support its mission to keep the Ithaca community informed — a mission we can get behind ourselves.
“We’ve had such great experience working with the Bickering Twins,” says Mike Blaney, executive director and a co-founder of The Ithaca Voice. “They donated tacos to our two-year anniversary party,” he says, and “they’re being very generous, donating $5 to us for every taco platter sold on Thursday.”
The Loft, too, is “donating a portion of proceeds from a special cocktail that night,” says Blaney. “The care put into renovating and decorating that building is very apparent, and we’re sure the guests of our fundraiser will love the feel of such an elegant space.”
“We are thrilled to be a bigger part of the Ithaca community,” Alexis Abb at The Loft tells us. “We have a great working relationship with the Bickering Twins, and are happy to see this continue.”
“Being a journalism major myself, I have seen firsthand how journalists are treated and the lack of quality/truthful news options out there,” Abb adds. “I think it is extremely important to support the publications that have a passion to serve their community, and I believe that the Ithaca Voice does that for Ithaca.”
Thursday’s Tacos for Truth event is from 5-10pm in The Loft on the second floor of the Carriage House Cafe at 305 Stewart Avenue. It’s an all-ages event, but those wishing to purchase cocktails must be 21 or over and have appropriate ID. Metered street parking is free after 6pm, and the nearby Williams Street parking lot is open to the public but requires payment at all times.
“Being charitable will never be as easy again,” Adelman says. Or as tasty.
