This Sunday evening, Agava Restaurant near East Hill Plaza will host the fourth annual Just Be Cause Party, a benefit to raise funds for the Just Be Cause Not-for-Profit Development Center and Gadabout, Tompkins County’s non-profit accessible transportation service.
The party, from 5-9pm on Sunday, July 31st, will include food and dancing with live music by The Destination. $50 tickets are available at gvgb.co/jbcparty4 and at the door. ($25 of each $50 ticket is considered a tax-deductible donation.)
Gadabout, celebrating its 40th anniversary this fall, was formed to fill the need of transportation for older adults and people with disabilities. The fleet of 31 accessible vehicles travels over 500,000 miles and provides over 60,000 trips annually, with volunteer and staff drivers who take riders to shop, volunteer, work, attend social gatherings, or to doctor’s appointments within Tompkins County. Anyone age 60 or over, or anyone who has a disability that interferes with their ability to use public transportation, is eligible to use the service. If you are interested in volunteering or using our service please call 607-273-1878.
The Just Be Cause Center, which opened in 2013, is a non-profit equivalent to a business incubator facility, offering affordable office and meeting space to area non-profit organizations. The west-end building, formerly the Ithaca Paint Company building, was renovated to offer five office spaces, as well as shared conference, meeting, and activity spaces, with modern rest rooms, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi. The building is dedicated to the late Judy Dietz, who died in 2012.
