Elm Street closed for two weeks starting Tuesday on Ithaca’s west hill

The City of Ithaca announced late Monday afternoon that the 300 block of Elm Street on Ithaca’s west hill would be closed starting tomorrow for a sidewalk replacement project.

According to a release, “Elm Street will be closed except for the residents that live on the 300 block of Elm Street. Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and TCAT buses.” The affected block is from Chestnut Street to West Village Place, west of the Lehman Alternative Community School.

The release says that detours will be posted for pedestrians and vehicles, but City of Ithaca staff did not respond to our request for details so we could share them with you. Traffic on Ithaca’s west hill is already detouring around multiple closed blocks of Hector Street, or Route 79, for work that started today.

The project is to replace the concrete sidewalks on the 300 block of Elm Street, and city officials say it should be complete by August 3.
