Route 79 on Ithaca’s west hill closing for two weeks starting Monday

After a couple of false starts, the City of Ithaca says contractors will be repairing and repaving several blocks of Hector Street, Route 79 on Ithaca’s west hill, starting next Monday, July 18, and a scheduled completion date of Friday, July 29.

Route 79 will be completely closed during the work, from the 300 block to the 700 block of Hector Street, or from Sunrise Road up to Taylor Place. The City of Ithaca is recommending westbound drivers take Route 96 towards Taughannock Falls State Park and Halseyville Road back to 79 in Enfield, and eastbound drivers take Halseyville Road from Enfield up towards Trumansburg and then Route 96 into Ithaca.

City officials say “There will be no on-street parking on Hector Street while the work is being completed during the hours of 7am until 3:30pm. Driveways on the west side, downhill lane will have limited access at times. Outside of these hours, access will be allowed to local residents at their own risk. Any vehicles parked on the street after 7am will be tagged and towed at the owner’s expense.”
