The Cayuga Heights Fire Department is kicking off another summer of free movie nights tonight with “Top Gun,” the 1986 naval aviator blockbuster starring Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis. They’ll be showing movies every Tuesday through the summer.
Everyone’s welcome at 6:30pm each Tuesday, and food will be available to purchase from the Dos Amigos taco truck. The movie will start when it’s dark enough, which varies from week to week. The night is a change from last year’s Thursday-night schedule, which conflicted with the weekly Downtown Ithaca concert series. Highlights last year included “The Sandlot,” “The Princess Bride,” and “Star Wars.”
A third summer of free movie nights at Ithaca’s Stewart Park, hosted by the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce, will begin in late July.
Fire Chief George Tamborelle says, “Bring the kids, chairs, blankets and let’s make this a summer long event!” If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the movie showing will be moved into the fire station’s truck bays.
The July 5th movie, “The Lion King,” will start at 7:15 so little kids don’t have to stay up too late, and will be shown inside the truck bay. Silo Food Truck will be offering macaroni & cheese and fried chicken starting at 6:30.
The Cayuga Heights Fire Station is at 194 Pleasant Grove Road, next to the Corners Community Shopping Center, off Hanshaw Road in Cayuga Heights.
