The 100 block of South Cayuga Street between State Street and Green Street will be closed to traffic this Thursday and Friday, June 29 and 30, according to the City of Ithaca.
City officials say the road closure is “in order to facilitate pedestrian scale lighting and other amenity improvements.” The project to install better lighting along the block to make it nicer for pedestrians in Downtown Ithaca has also included some parking lane closures in recent weeks.
The block includes businesses like Sunny Days, Lot 10, Hawi Ethiopian Restaurant, Stiehl’s Body Modification, the Chanticleer, and Pete’s Cayuga Bar, as well as apartment and office entrances. All should remain reachable by pedestrians, but you may want to call ahead if you have deliveries or pickups to make on those days.
Motorists should follow posted detours, which we’re guessing will take them west on West State Street, then left on Geneva Street and left on Green Street. Pedestrians should be aware of work taking place and be careful when crossing.
