A young man named Deany is fighting aggressive brain tumors, and lots of local musicians are teaming up for a benefit concert at The Dock on Sunday afternoon, June 25th.
A diagnosis of DIPG, or Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, came in mid March after six-year-old Deany woke up with symptoms similar to a lazy eye, family members say. Radiation treatments help to slow the growth of the tumors, but there’s no approved cure.
Parents Ashley and Dean decided to take Deany to Mexico to pursue a clinical trial that’s not available in the United States, and friends and family have supported them with online fundraisers at YouCaring and GoFundMe.
Dolce Delight on Ithaca’s south hill also hosted a lemonade and ice tea stand raising money for Deany’s family last Saturday. The lemonade stand was run by one of Deany’s classmates who happens to know Christina Dixon at Dolce Delight.
Deany’s grandparents, Debi and Don Gregg, live on Ithaca’s south hill, and the family is currently staying with them.
Sunday’s benefit concert is scheduled at the Dock on Old Taughannock Boulevard from 1-6:45pm, and features live music from The Jeff Love Band, Mike Brindisi, Nick Gilbert, and Citizen O’Kane. Italian Carry Out pizza and desserts from Dolce Delight will be available, and there will be activities for kids, a raffle, and a silent auction.
There’s a suggested $15 donation at the door, and all proceeds will go to Deany’s family.
