No one injured as fire department puts out Trumansburg car fire

A quick response by the Trumansburg Fire Department helped prevent a big disaster after a car caught fire at the gas pumps at the Shur-Save supermarket at the edge of the village late Thursday night.

Witnesses said a car burst into flame “sitting atop of the fuel fill tanks” at the Sunoco gas station adjacent to the store, near the Trumansburg Fairground, at about 10pm on Thursday.

Store employees’ attempts to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher weren’t successful, but the Trumansburg Fire Department got to the scene quickly.

“It’s out and everyone is safe,” said a staff member from the Shur-Save, who said firefighters evacuated the store as a precaution.
