The Ithaca Police Department says they are investigating a death that appears to be “suspicious in nature” after a body was found in a Collegetown apartment building on Tuesday morning.
A statement from IPD says police were called to the scene just before 7am on June 13 for a report of a dead body discovered inside an apartment on the 200 block of Dryden Road. Responding officers “discovered a deceased” person, according to IPD.
“There are indicators that a fire occurred inside the building,” says IPD public information officer Jamie Williamson, so “members of the Ithaca Fire Department were also dispatched to the scene.”
The cause of death is under investigation “and has not yet been determined,” police say. Williamson has clarified to 14850 Today that the victim was found “in a building that’s under construction.”
IPD is investigating alongside New York State Police, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department, and Cornell University Police Department.
