Man airlifted to hospital after fall from downtown balcony

A 20-year-old man was airlifted to the hospital late Friday night after falling from a balcony on South Cayuga Street just after 11pm, according to Ithaca Police.

Bangs Ambulance, Ithaca Fire Department, and Ithaca Police Department were all dispatched to the scene at 317 South Cayuga Street for a report of a man who had fallen from a second-floor balcony. Thomas Hilchey, who lives on Ithaca’s west hill, was found “unconscious on the ground bleeding from ears and nose but breathing,” according to an IPD statement.

Responders on the scene decided to airlift him to Robert Packer hospital in Sayre due to the “possibility of serious injuries.” Police say they believe the fall was an accident, but an investigation is continuing.
