What’s the next Hunger Hero sandwich? Mayor Svante Myrick will pick the winning sandwich idea this afternoon, and everyone’s invited to watch at Collegetown Bagels.

The Hunger Hero contest is a joint effort between CTB and the United Way of Tompkins County, with community members submitting sandwich ideas and then the mayor getting to pick the best one. The winning sandwich design will go on sale at Collegetown Bagels and Ithaca Bakery outlets around town, and proceeds will go the United Way to help fund local food banks and other hunger-related causes.

The first Hunger Hero contest winner two years ago was Brandon Fortenberry, whose “Myrick Mac & More” offered both meaty and vegetarian versions, topped with macaroni & cheese.

Sandwich ideas for this year’s contest were gathered last month, and CTB sandwich crews will be preparing the finalist candidates for the Mayor to taste. If you want to watch Mayor Myrick judge the Hunger Hero sandwich entries, just be at the Downtown Ithaca branch of Collegetown Bagels at 203 North Aurora Street at 5pm today, Thursday, June 2.
