Man dies in late-night State Street collision on Ithaca’s east hill

Ithaca Police say a man was found unresponsive after his car crashed into a tree in the wee hours of Monday morning. The collision occurred in the 1000 block of East State Street.

According to a release from the Ithaca Police Department, officers responded to East State Street south of Collegetown at 2:40am, and were joined at the scene by personnel from Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance. Responders found “an unresponsive man in the driver’s seat” of the vehicle.

Police say the man “was removed from the vehicle with the assistance of additional emergency services.” The crash victim was “transported to the Cayuga Medical Center and did not survive,” according to IPD.

East State Street was closed for a period on Monday morning while Ithaca’s crash reconstruction team investigated the accident. IPD asks that anyone with additional information regarding the accident contact them at 607-272-9973.
