This month is the 40th anniversary of the iconic Grateful Dead concert at Cornell’s Barton Hall, and this week, the new “Long Strange Trip” documentary will be at Cinemapolis for four showings.
Ithaca commemorated the anniversary of the 5.8.77 show with a chimes concert at Cornell’s McGraw Tower, an event at the State Theatre featuring Terrapin Station, a Dark Hollow concert at the Range, reading and book signing of the book Cornell ’77 by Peter Conners, and a county proclamation marking Grateful Dead Day in Tompkins County.
“Long Strange Trip” is an Amazon Original production, and will be available for Amazon Prime subscribers to watch next month. It’s premiering in theaters across the country first, including at Downtown Ithaca’s own Cinemapolis.
The documentary boasts “never before seen footage and interviews — an unprecedented look at the life of the Dead.” Subtitled “The Untold Story of the Grateful Dead,” the movie will run at 11:30am, 2:00pm, 4:30pm, and 7:00pm on Thursday, May 25th.
Admission for the 241-minute movie is $18, $15 for members, senior citizens, and students.
