Pedestrian airlifted after Ithaca west end accident

Ithaca Police Department officers responded to Ithaca’s west end on Friday afternoon “for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle and was still laying in the roadway,” according to a release.

According to IPD Sgt. Kevin Slattery, “a witness on scene told police that the victim had been crossing the street, in an area not designated for crossing, when he was struck by westbound traffic.” The incident occurred in the 1000 block of West State Street, near Mama Teresa Pizzeria and the Just Be Cause Center.

Officers arrived on the scene to find the injured man “laying on his back and bleeding from his head.” He was conscious and able to communicate with emergency responders. The driver of the involved motor vehicle was not injured.

The injured man was flown to a regional trauma center, according to IPD.
