Plan for some extra time to get up or down Ithaca’s South Hill next week. The City of Ithaca says the 100 block of South Aurora Street will be closed for three days.
According to the City of Ithaca’s Department of Public Works, the street must be closed from Monday, May 23 through Wednesday, May 25 to install water and sanitary sewer service for the new Ithaca Marriott Hotel that’s being built at the southeast corner of the Commons.
South Aurora Street, also known as Route 96B from Downtown Ithaca to Ithaca College, will be closed from the East State Street intersection in front of the Commons to the Hudson Street intersection. Ithaca officials say they will maintain “local and emergency access for the 100 block of South Aurora Street from either end up to but not through the work zone.”
Posted detours will take northbound traffic (heading down the hill) west or left onto Prospect Street, and drivers trying to reach East State Street will have to continue onto Clinton Street, turn right on South Cayuga Street, and right on East Green Street near the Tompkins County Public Library. Southbound traffic (heading up towards Ithaca College) will be detoured onto East Seneca Street at the tuning fork, then south or left onto Cayuga Street, east or left onto Clinton Street then Prospect Street, and right onto South Aurora Street heading south.
