Here at 14850 Dining we love a good brunch, so it’s nice to see a favorite local restaurant add brunch to their repertoire. That’s what happened this spring with Bandwagon Brewpub in Downtown Ithaca.
Bandwagon already knows how to do comfort food, so it’s no surprise that they can pull off a traditional Eggs Benedict with local ham from the Piggery, or with braised greens or a crab cake. The diner plate is a classic breakfast with fresh eggs, toast, biscuit, or english muffin, and two sides — including choices like their own bacon, local sausage, hashbrown casserole, macaroni and cheese, vegan sausage, even a green salad.
The biscuits and gravy features cheddar garlic biscuits that are just the right crumbliness, and an excellent peppery sausage gravy made with Piggery sausage. You can do biscuits and gravy with fried eggs as a full meal, but it’s nice that a single biscuit and a side of gravy is an option.
Of course we’re happy to see that legendary Bandwagon dish, cornmeal waffles with shrimp, andouille sausage, spinach, and the amazing red pepper chili cream sauce, on the menu. It’s been a favorite since they opened, and it makes a great dinner, too.
And yes, it’s possible to make vegan banana almond french toast every bit as decadent as you need it to be on a Sunday.
The brunch menu also includes some lunch options like the beer battered catfish sandwich or happy eggplant sub, or Bandwagon’s excellent local beef burger or the best veggieburger in town.
Enjoy a tangy bloody mary garnished with house-cured bacon, or get prosecco and juice for the table… twenty bucks for a whole bottle of bubbly and a carafe of the juice of your choice. Add a mug of Ithaca Coffee Company’s hearty brew to extend the weekend in style.
Find Bandwagon Brewpub under the yellow awning at 114 North Cayuga Street or bandwagonbeer.com, dinner through late night Tuesday through Saturday, plus brunch from 11-4 on Sunday, or give them a call at 607-319-0699 and tell them you heard about them here.
