Driver airlifted to SUNY Upstate after colliding with trucks on Route 89

A driver who “crossed over the center lines” while driving south on Route 89 Thursday afternoon was airlifted to SUNY Upstate Medical Center with “non-life-threatening” injuries, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department.

Tompkins County Sheriff's DepartmentA release from the Sheriff’s Department says deputies responded at about 3:35pm on Thursday on New York State Route 89 near Glenwood Road, northwest of Ithaca.

Deputies say their investigation showed that a maroon Toyota sedan traveling south towards Ithaca crossed over the center lines into the northbound lane, and struck a Peterbilt commercial truck traveling north, and then also struck a Chevrolet pickup truck that was traveling north.

The driver was airlifted to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, and deputies subsequently learned the injuries were not life-threatening. No other injuries were reported, according to the Sheriff’s Department, who is still investigating the collision.
