Power outage and detours across Ithaca’s west end and southwest

According to IPD, the affected roads have reopened to traffic shortly before 9am. NYSEG says power has been restored.

Original story:

Traffic into and through Ithaca’s west end and southwest is being detoured around a large area affected by a power outage. All traffic lanes of Route 13 (South Meadow Street) are closed in both directions in the area, and motorists are advised to find a route around the area or wait to drive this morning.

According to the Ithaca Police Department, a utility line is down in the 700 block of South Meadow Street. Emergency responders have blocked off a portion of South Meadow Street near Tops, where NYSEG crews are at work.

Drivers attempting to cross Route 13 are being detoured through the Wegmans and Tops parking lots to Old Elmira Road. Those coming from the west side of town are being detoured south on Fulton Street onto Meadow, right onto Cecil Malone Drive, through the Wegmans and Tops parking lots, then right onto South Meadow Street.

At this time, NYSEG says about 214 customers are without power in the City of Ithaca, including on South Plain Street, Wood Street, Fair Street, South Street, and South Titus Avenue. At 7:45am, NYSEG said they anticipated restoring power to the affected area by 8:30am, but pushed the estimate back to 9:30am as of 8:15.

This is an evolving story, and we’ll provide more information as we have it.
