A statement from IFD public information officer Lt. Thomas T. Basher Jr. says firefighters responded at about 8:30 this morning to a report of a basement fire, and when they arrived, quickly called for a second alarm.

Firefighters were able to “extinguish the stubborn fire” while keeping it contained to the basement, which was heavily damaged.

IFD says the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department, Ithaca Police Department, Ithaca College police, and Bangs Ambulance assisted at the scene, and firefighters from Lansing, Newfield, and Dryden assisted IFD with other calls.
