Pedestrian mugged Wednesday night on West Buffalo Street

Ithaca police are investigating a robbery that occurred Wednesday night on West Buffalo Street near a residential neighborhood and an elementary school. A man walking on the 300 block of West Buffalo Street just before 9:45pm said three unidentified men walked past him, and then the last to pass him “suddenly turned around and punched him multiple times in the face,” according to a police report.

Police say the other two men also turned around and punched the victim, and when the victim tried to run away, the men grabbed him and “forcibly removed his backpack” before fleeing the area on foot. A passing motorist stopped to help the victim and call police.

The victim was evaluated at the scene by Bangs Ambulance personnel, but declined medical treatment.

All three suspects were described as black males, but no further description was available. IPD asks that anyone who might know who or where these individuals are, or with other information that might aid their investigation, contact them through police dispatch at 607-272-3245, the administration line at 607-272-9973, the Crimestoppers Tipline at 607-697-0333, or the anonymous online tip form.
