Drivers heading to or through the Cornell University campus should avoid East Avenue again for the next couple of weeks. Cornell is closing a portion of the road through May 8.
According to a bulletin from Cornell, the portion of East Avenue from Tower Road to the Lincoln Hall driveway will be closed to all vehicle traffic, “including buses and bicycles.” Cornell says the sidewalk on the west side will also be closed. “Crews will replace catch basins and valve boxes, install raised crosswalks, mill and pave, and restripe the roadway,” according to Cornell.
You’ll still be able to get to the driveway between Day Hall and Stimson Hall from the south, and you’ll be able to get to the Lincoln Hall lot from the north. Presidents Drive, the loop in front of A.D. White House with a small parking area in front of the Big Red Barn, will be closed. Handicap-accessible parking spaces in that lot will be relocated to the lot near Malott Hall, off Garden Avenue.
Cornell says TCAT bus stops will be relocated to Milstein Hall for northbound routes and Uris Hall for southbound routes, and the Campus-2-Campus bus will stop at Uris Hall instead of in front of Sage Hall and the Statler Hotel.
The repairs come after East Avenue was closed for over a year while the new Klarman Hall was built, partially underground, east of Goldwin Smith Hall. The road reopened a year ago, and the southbound lane was closed for the last couple of weeks.
