The Ithaca Fire Department and several other area fire departments will have recruiting events this weekend as part of RecruitNY, a statewide volunteer recruiting effort.
Ithaca Fire Department’s open house is Saturday, April 23rd from 11am to 3pm at their Central Fire Station at 310 West Green Street. They’re looking to add to the ranks of their volunteers, who serve alongside career firefighters. Volunteers can serve as interior or exterior firefighters or as members of the fire police unit.
The Danby Volunteer Fire Company is holding an open house and chicken BBQ from 12-3pm on Saturday at 1780 Danby Road.
The Enfield Volunteer Fire Company has an open house from 10am-2pm on Saturday at 174 Enfield Main Road.
Groton Fire Department has a chicken BBQ and open house from 9am-2pm on Saturday at 108 East Cortland Street in Groton.
Speedsville Volunteer Fire Company has an open house from 10am-2pm on Saturday at 40 Mill Road in Berkshire.
The Varna Volunteer Fire Company has an open house with firefighting activities, gear to try out, and members to speak with from 11am-3pm on Sunday, April 24th, at 14 Turkey Hill Road.
Hundreds more departments across New York State are participating in RecruitNY, organized by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York. Check recruitny.org for other events outside Tompkins County.
