IPD says woman was robbed late Saturday night in Downtown Ithaca

The Ithaca Police Department says they responded late Saturday night to a report that a woman had been robbed on West Court Street near Sears Street in Downtown Ithaca.

Police officers responded at about 12:58am Sunday after a woman reported an incident that occurred about 20 minutes earlier. According to IPD, the woman reported that “a black male suspect wearing a black hoodie style sweatshirt and jeans approached her and took her wallet out of her hands.”

The victim told police she chased the robber, who pulled the cash out of her wallet, dropped the wallet, and fled. Police say the victim was able to recover the wallet, and the suspect was last seen running south on Cayuga Street toward the west end of the Commons.

Earlier Sunday, police reported that an elderly woman was robbed in Downtown Ithaca on Sunday afternoon. IPD public information officer Jamie Williamson says “it is too early to draw any conclusions as to whether the incidents are related.”

IPD asks that anyone who might know more about the incident, or with other information that might aid their investigation, contact them through police dispatch at 607-272-3245, the administration line at 607-272-9973, the Crimestoppers Tipline at 607-697-0333, or the anonymous online tip form.
