New York State legislators have a bill called the New York Health Act up for discussion in the 2017-2018 legislative session, and Ithaca residents and business owners can learn more tonight thanks to Finger Lakes for NY Health.
The group is hosting an info session at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca in Downtown Ithaca from 6:30-8:30pm tonight, Thursday, April 13, at 306 North Aurora Street. They ask that you RSVP to email@example.com to reserve a seat if you plan to come.
Finger Lakes for NY Health says the New York Health Act could save money for small businesses, local governments, and school districts, and reduce property taxes for residents. The proposed new law is in the New York State legislature as Bill A4738 before the NYS Assembly and Bill S4840 before the NYS Senate.
According to the NYS Senate website, the bill “Establishes the New York Health program, a comprehensive system of access to health insurance for New York state residents; provides for administrative structure of the plan; provides for powers and duties of the board of trustees, the scope of benefits, payment methodologies and care coordination; establishes the New York Health Trust Fund which would hold monies from a variety of sources to be used solely to finance the plan; enacts provisions relating to financing of New York Health, including a payroll assessment, similar to the Medicare tax; establishes a temporary commission on implementation of the plan; provides for collective negotiations by health care providers with New York Health.”
