Ithaca’s new downtown vegan cafe, Ten Forward has a Star Trek theme

A launch party on Saturday afternoon will welcome Ten Forward, Downtown Ithaca’s new vegan cafe, run by Tammie Olsefski, also the owner of the Star Truck.

Update: Ten Forward is open, and it’s awesome!

Ten Forward is opening Saturday on the second floor at 115 East State Street, upstairs from Autumn Leaves Used Books. It’s where the Crow’s Nest Cafe closed last year, and like the Star Truck, it’s going to focus on a plant-based menu of hearty comfort-food meals, with more of a focus on local and regional items, Tammie tells us.

“We’ll be serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner items including custom sandwiches, wraps, salads, rice bowls,” Tammie says. “We’ll also be serving up banana based milkshakes, baked goods, and coffee drinks!”

Tammie says there will be monthly specials, such as feature sandwiches, and she’s going to focus on food that’s low in salt and oil.

The cafe will be open the same hours as the bookstore, 10am-8pm on Monday through Wednesday, 10am-9pm on Thursday through Saturday, and 11am-6pm on Sunday.

This doesn’t mean the popular Star Truck is going away. The portable vegan eatery is often at Press Bay Alley and at food truck roundups around town. Tammie tells us, “The truck will be open, but later in the season than usual. We’ll be settling into the cafe first, and then I’ll be able to focus more on the truck.”

The launch party is this Saturday March 25 from 4-8pm at 115 East State Street with free cupcake samples!
