No, you didn’t read that wrong. Representative Tom Reed, who represents Ithaca and a western swath of the Southern Tier, has endorsed Donald Trump.
A statement from Reed’s campaign says more Republican voters “favor Donald Trump than any other candidate” in the primary races, and says the party should unify behind Trump.
The Republican defeated Nate Shinagawa and Martha Robertson in his election bids for the 23rd congressional district seat. John Plumb is running against Reed this fall.
“I’ve voted for you for years but supporting Trump and his fear mongering, racist, sexist and hateful rhetoric makes me think twice,” said a former Reed supporter on his campaign Facebook page. “I am no longer supporting nor following you. You have lost my respect when you agree with such horrible un-American agenda.”
Ithaca mayor Svante Myrick took to his own Facebook this morning to suggest Reed’s endorsement of Trump is a good reason to support Plumb. We are betting he wasn’t a Reed fan before today, though. For more, follow 14850.com on Facebook and Twitter.
